Dear Future Husband...

Dear Future Husband,

Where are you? Are you looking for me? Does it seem like everyone you know is getting married too? Do you have the “groomsman, never a groom” problem? You see, I’m 22 and I’ve haven’t felt such pressure to be in a relationship in my life. My biological clock has begun ticking, not to scare you off or anything. In fact if anything should scare you, it should be my terrible, awful, no good morning hair, or the fact that I get very emotionally involved with TV characters. So are you out there, future husband? Because I’m sick of being the 3rd wheel, or the dreaded 5th wheel. And I really, REALLY don’t want to become a bitter old cat lady--but the way things are looking right now, I should be purchasing my first cat sometime within the next 5 years. So future husband, I promise you this- warm cookies when you come home from work, back massages when you are feeling stressed, and to always brush my teeth in the morning before kissing you. It doesn’t get much better than that, right?

Sincerely, and hopefully soon with love,
Your future wife

Be Kind. Please.

My thoughts on hate:

Today I was deeply saddened by some remarks on Twitter. There are some very cowardly and weak cyber bullies ganging up on a woman. They are hating and saying such hurtful things to this woman solely based on the fact that she is a lesbian. They are telling her that because of her lifestyle and sexual preference, she will get cancer, and that when she gets sick no one will feel bad for her because she will deserve it. They are also telling her to kill herself. I am honestly shocked watching all of this go down. If someone’s choices and lifestyle aren’t directly affecting you, then why must you judge them or hate them? If someone chooses a different way of life and you don’t agree with it (and it’s not doing harm to others), keep your mouth shut. I honestly believe that cyber bullying is the most cowardly act. Most of the time cyber bullies don’t actually personally know their victim, yet don’t agree with their lifestyle or simply just need a reason to put others down to make them feel better about themselves. Maybe the bully is lonely and acting out for attention, or maybe they have passionate views that disagree with others. No matter what the reason, bullying and hate are never the answers. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me? That’s a lie. Words hurt. And once they are out, you cannot take them back. So please, think before you speak. Be as open-minded and educated as possible before you say something that may seriously hurt someones feelings. It is absolutely 100% never okay to tell someone that their life is not worth living. Especially under the name of God. God calls us to love one another. In fact, Mark 12:31 says “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is not greater commandment than these.” So really who are we to judge others? Who are we to police other peoples personal choices and actions? Many times I think that social media is a great way to get connected with people from all different walks of life, however when clearly ignorant and hateful people use it in the wrong way, it just hurts my heart. So please. PLEASE. Be kind. And stand up to bullies. There’s no need to pick a fight and give them the attention that they are so desperately seeking. But go ahead and block them, report them, and make sure you are an advocate for love, not hate.

My Lone Left Dimple

Today’s post is extremely random, and I apologize in advance. But for some reason I was thinking about dimples today. Why do some people have little dents in their cheeks, while some people don’t? Why do some people have 2 dimples and some people only have 1? What is a dimple? Here are some answers, since I know yall are intrigued now!

-Most dimples are actually caused by a birth defect, which just goes to show you that not all “malformations” are actually bad!
-The genetics of dimples is actually rather interesting. Dimples are a dominant trait which means that it only takes one gene to inherit dimples. If neither of your parents has dimples, you shouldn't have them either, unless you experience a spontaneous mutation. If one of your parents has dimples, you have a 25-50% chance of inheriting the gene, since it means that parent inherited the gene from one or both parents. If both of your parents have dimples, you have a 50-100% chance of inheriting the gene, depending on how they inherited their dimple genes.
-Some people only have a dimple on one side; this physical trait can actually be rather endearing.

I don’t know if either of my parents have dimples, so I’ll be sure to ask next time I talk to them. Also, it’s apparently rare to have only one dimple, which I have on my left cheek, but since I’ve been asking, a lot of people I know have only one dimple.

There ya go folks. Some facts about dimples, since you were dying to know.

My poor lonely left dimple is so noticable! Why has this never bothered me before?!?!

My car, the Delorean...

Dear readers, I have made a discovery. A loophole in the universe, if you will. You see, no matter what I do, I arrive on campus at 7:01am. My GPS says it takes me about 35 minutes to get to class. If I leave at 6:15, which I have tried, I somehow pull into the parking lot at 7:01. The other day, I got lost, didn’t get on my way until 6:40, and still pulled into the parking lot at 7:01. I have somehow stumbled upon the secret to time travel. I don’t know how, so don’t ask. All I know is that next week, I’m gonna sleep in until about 7:30 and then see if I can travel back in time to make it to campus at 7:01. With my record so far, it can be done. I’ll keep yall updated! ;)

Stuck in Reverse

I am the most sentimental person I know. I also have one of the most ridiculous memories out of everyone I know. These two traits combined can be very interesting. For instance, I can hear a song that I heard 10 years ago while driving down the road with my mom, and I can still tell you exactly what road and intersection we were at when I heard the song 10 years before. This leads me to say “Aww! Remember that time…” after almost every song while my friends roll their eyes and assure me that normal people don’t remember those sorts of things (Sorry to all my friends who have to hear this constantly).  I’m not the kind of person who can take a stroll down memory lane. I take more of a camping trip down memory lane, stopping for a while and observing and taking in everything before moving on. I’m not the kind of person who should watch old home videos or look at old pictures unless I am willing to be emotional and daydream about my childhood for the rest of the day. But yesterday I did just that.
It started off simple, with me and my roommate sitting on the couch looking up YouTube videos of childhood TV shows. We watched countless videos of the various Mary-Kate and Ashley shows and sang along to the songs (embarrassing? yes. no. maybe?) I then proceeded to look up videos from the Big Comfy Couch, another one of my favorite shows from when I was younger. My roommate and I then got into a discussion about our childhoods and she said that she enjoyed her childhood but she wouldn’t want to go back. This threw me for a loop, seeing as how I would give almost anything to go back to 3rd grade again. But then I realized and remembered that most people enjoy living their lives in a forward motion, enjoying each event as it comes and then moving on. For some reason, I tend to get stuck in the past. I never enjoy a moment as much as when it’s over, and then I look back with envy, wishing I could go back. I think that is oone of my biggest flaws. I’m 22 and I have a good life; I have no major complaints. But what I would give to go back to the time of Nintendo 64, Matilda, sleepovers, happy face pancakes, fruit roll ups, and make believe. And yes, it was fun to go back and watch some old videos of childhood shows, but I really need to be learning how to live in the present and appreciate what I have while I have it and stop living my life wishing there was a rewind button. But what can I say, I’m a work in progress. And suggestions are welcomed.

*PS- I used to and still might be obsessed with the Olsen twins and played Mary-Kate and Ashley Detective Agency when I was younger. I would always be Mary-Kate. always.

The Heart Walk: 3.2 miles completed!

Hey yall! So, Saturday was the Charlotte Heart Walk, and I did it! With lots of support and help I raised $370 for the American Heart Association. The day started at 7:45am when me, Lindsey, Dinah, and Bo all gathered at our apartment to ride over together. I think we were all pretty shocked when we walked outside! I was wearing pants, a long sleeved shirt, and a jacket and I was still cold! We had a little bit of trouble finding parking, but Bo saved the day. When we finally got to the actual site, there were what appeared to be a bajillion people. And they were all dressed in red. Oops, I didn’t get that memo. There were also a ton of dogs, which was fun and adorable. We had a few minutes to kill before the walk actually started so we took some pictures and grabbed some free food. Then it started to drizzle. So there we were, in the middle of a bajillion people in downtown Charlotte, in the cold rain. Yall, I’m not exaggerating when I say you could see your breath. It was pretty gross out. Finally the walk started and everyone was lined up at the start line. Because there were so many people and the route wasn’t super well planned, there were a few times when the walk was more of a shuffle. All in all the walk was fun though! And I didn’t even pass out! By mile 1 I started getting a little bit warmer and could feel my ears again. There were definitely some uphill spots that made things a little difficult, but overall it was much easier than I thought it would be (especially with the rain and cool temperatures). But I did it! 3.2 miles complete. And I know it’s nothing extraordinary, but it made me happy. I’m happy that I raised money for a good cause and went out there and did something. So again, THANK YOU to everyone who supported me and donated. I really appreciate all of you!

The Liebster Award!

Hello all! It’s another one of those nights where I have to be up for class in 5 hours, so I’m gonna go ahead and make this short. I am not a good blogger. I blog for fun and to work on my writing skills. It honestly surprises me that I have 22 followers, even though 1 is my dad (hi dad!). So, no, I don’t know how to format my blog very well, or create cool icons and buttons, (I also can’t figure out how to leave comments. It never lets me log in!) and I don’t really know how blogging awards work, but I’m gonna give it a shot!
I received the Liebster Award! The Liebster Award is meant to connect us even more and spotlight NEWER BLOGGERS who have less than 200 followers (but hopefully not for long).
