Many people have heard the quote that starts off "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate...", but if you are like me, you have not heard the full quote. So here is the full quote by Marianne Williamson.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are
powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens
us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small
doesn't serve the world. You were born to make manifest the glory of Gof that is
within us. It's not just in some of us; It's in everyone. And as we let our own
light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we
are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates other."
It is true that sometimes I do fear that I am not enough. Not good enough, not smart enough, not pretty enough. And in reality, most of us have these lingering pesky thoughts that we often dwell on. However, I also believe that the above quote holds true. We are afraid of the power within ourselves. We feel that we do not deserve to be good enough, smart enough, and pretty enough. We do not feel that we deserve to be enough. And so we hide behind our insecurities, afraid to let our strengths shine through. Because what would happen if someone realized that we had "enough" in us and exposed our light to others?
We were each given different personalities and talents so that we could bring them all together to create something wonderful on this Earth. But if we are hiding behind our insecurities, are we really contributing all that we could to the good of others? And we have all had that moment at some point in our lives where we have wanted to do something or say something, but we were scared to make the first move. And then that one brave soul stood up and said the thing or did the thing that you were scared to do, and all the sudden you felt liberated; like you were now free to do and speak what you please. It is that one person who is not afraid to speak up, who is not afraid to be enough, that opens the doors for others to believe in themselves and change the world.
So, as the quote says...who are you to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Well really, who are you not to be?
